New Hire Orientation and Continuing Training Courses

Before any of our newly hired employees ever set foot in the Castle Steel shop or on a jobsite, they complete a comprehensive training course.  Employees are instructed regarding the overall safety policies of the company, as well as Personal Protective Equipment, our Hazcom Program; including SDS sheet instruction, Fire Protection, and important OSHA standards.  They also learn about job specific safety information, such as fall protection and training on job hazard analysis.  Each week a different safety topic is chosen and discussed at a "toolbox talk" meeting.  Our employees health and well-being is of utmost importance to the Management Staff.  All of our Foremen complete CPR/First Aid Training annually and must complete the OSHA 10 training course.  We want all of our staff to return to their loved ones safely at the end of the day.

Risk Management

In addition to our training programs and ongoing education for employees, we also have a stringent drug testing policy that is performed pre-hire, randomly throughout the year, and also is mandatory post-accident.  We have a comprehensive return to work program as well, and all company truck drivers complete a Safe Driving course annually.  Our policy makes seatbelts mandatory and texting or talking while driving is not allowed.  The Site Safety Coordinator also performs random audits to ensure adherence to policies.

The Proof is in the Numbers

We take pride that the current Castle Steel emod (experience modification) rating is 0.75.  That is 25% lower than industry standard!  We have only a 7% Workers Compensation loss ratio over the last 3 years.  We have had no OSHA citations for over 8 years.

In 2015 Castle Steel was chosen as a recipient of the Safety First Award, given by Copperpoint (formerly SCF) insurance company.
